This was inspired by a photo. Early one morning we were driving ( totally lost ) and came upon this windswept tree hovering the road in the Irish mist.

Saturday at Griffin Park
8" x 10" oil on canvas covered hardboard painted en plein air - $85 including shipping.
I can be sure Spring is on the way when the local park is buzzing with little guys wearing baseball uniforms and eating hot dogs. This little creek runs through Griffin Park in Tunnel Hill, GA, and will soon be the site of the Great Whitfield County Duck Race.

Early Spring Fog
8" x 10" oil on canvas covered hardboard
painted en plein air
$85 including shipping
It was pea soup foggy as I drove early to Sandra's house for a day of painting. Plein air is Sandra's specialty and I'm learning to catch the essence of the scene before it slips away. It was a perfect morning as the fog rose to reveal the distant hills. The light was incredible!

Happy Mountains Valley
16" x 20" oil on stretched canvas
$240
Experimentation resulted in this mountain/valley scene right out of my head.
I started by using a light neutral color and one in a bright mid-dark range. Using a large brush and just letting the paint go where it wanted resulted in the basic values. Then I laid crumpled plastic wrap on the wet oil paint, pressed it down lightly and quickly lifted it.
By turning the canvas around and over, I began to see a scene form. Using the brush, I started pushing the paint around until the mountains formed. Then came the midground.
After the basic shapes dried, I added small details. I'm still not sure whether it's finished yet. It might not be. But maybe it is.

Covered Bridge - en plein air

The quiet field beside this covered bridge in Tunnel Hill, GA, once was the scene of a Civil War battle. The land is silent now, but we remember those who fell here - all of them Americans.

Crawfish Springs is in Chickamauga, a quaint little town in northwest Georgia. As the underground stream surfaces, it makes a water wonderland of periwinkles, aquatic plants and swirls of magical colors. You can almost see the fairies playing at the waters edge.

Wild Mountain Blue
10" x 8" acrylic on stretched canvas
$65
I had to get this out of my head and onto canvas.
Is there a road you dread to travel? Do the trees seem menacing darkly as you go by? Does it seem that your car is the only one on the road for miles? Do your headlights seem to dim at a particular place on this road? Does it seem to get dark particularly early there?
Maybe I won't dream about this road again.

Not Another Red Barn - DONATED
16" x20" acrylic on stretched canvas - NFS
- DONATED
Well, the barn in my reference photo isn't yellow. But I remembered I had never actually seen a yellow barn - until now. I know the reasoning behind originally painting barns red, but I just couldn't keep from dipping my brushes into the yellows on my palette.
I hope you enjoy the detour from reality.

In Looking Back
8" x 10" x 1/2" acrylic on gallery wrap canvas

When I was a child, traveling to Florida to visit my aunt was an adventure. South Georgia and North Florida were a world apart - at least through the eyes of a 10 year old.
The Okefenokee Swamp was mysterious, dangerous and a land of wonder. Always peering through the car window, I was the lookout for alligators.
"There's one !", I'd scream. And Mom and Dad would always agree that the dead log was indeed the creature of the swamp.

Bird of a Feather
10" x 8" oil on stretched canvas
$80
Combining a bird photo, an old fence post and just a little imagination resulted in this whimsical piece.
Knowing that art critics might advise me never to have my subject staring or fixated on something not shown in the painting - I did it anyway.
"...what is he looking at?..."

Suddenly Spring
4" x 4" x 1/2" acrylic on gallery wrap canvas
$20 - including shipping
I'm just imagining what my little tree will look like in her Spring costume of green. Soon, very soon.
Working on a very small canvas is sometimes as challenging as painting a 16"x20" piece.

Windy Moon Eclipse - March
8" x 8" x 1/2" acrylic on gallery wrap canvas
$60
March 3rd gave the world a breathtaking view - a total lunar eclipse. "Windy Moon" is but one of the names given the March full moon.
The paint was still wet when this photo was taken. I must apologize for the effect this gave in the lower right of the painting. Be assured that it is now dry.
