Hillside Above the Tunnel progressing

8" x 10" original oil on canvas covered hardboard - $85 when completed including shipping -
This is the hillside above the famous tunnel in Tunnel Hill, GA. The heavy April frost affected the tree foliage making it appear more like Fall. This painting is in progress but should be finished within a few days - depending on the weather.

Spring Mountain Shadows - SOLD

9" x 12" original oil on canvas covered hardboard - $108 including shipping - SOLD -
The April heavy frost in this North Georgia area killed much of the trees' new leaf growth, giving the impression of Fall colors in Spring. The colors are quite wonderful, but difficult to match when painting them onto canvas.

As It Flows

As this little creek daily flows through the park and meadows in Tunnel Hill, it reminds me of the varying bright spots and shadows in our lives.

Aprils Fall

8" x 10" original oil painted en plein air on canvas covered hardboard -
$85 including shipping -
In mid-April there was a hard frost which killed much of the new Spring growth on trees in this North Georgia area. The trees have an almost early Fall foliage coloring, but the grasses are newly green.

The Fallen One is a work in progress

12" x 9" original oil on gallery wrapped canvas -
$108 including shipping (when completed) -
This is from a plein air sketch and a really bad photo. I'm working on portraying the spirit of the tree which appears to be holding up a fallen brother. The foliage is roughly laid in and the trunks and grass still need work. The larger tree will be even larger in foliage.
I will post the finished painting with a PayPal 'buy now' button soon.

Greek Garden - color study

This is a 12" x 9" color study for a larger (36" x 24") commissioned painting. My reference was a black and white photo, so I had to decide which color palette to use. Rather that use the standard yellow, red, blue palette I decided to just reach into my bag of tricks and choose similar colors.

I chose these oil colors for the finished work: oxide of chromium green, naples yellow, mauve (blue shade), burnt sienna, black and white.

If you would like to buy this color study for only $20 - including shipping - click on the PayPal buy now button.

Storm - study in black and brown

10" x 8" acrylic wash on canvas covered hardboard -
$65 including shipping - sold unframed -
This is a study using only black, brown and white acrylic . I've been thinking about the Nor'easter that has been hitting the Eastern seaboard and how Spring has suddenly become a season of storm. The black and brown seem to portray the feeling of these storms.

Painted View

8" x 16" acrylic on stretched canvas -
$135 including shipping -
When I paint an imaginary landscape, I always include mountains and flowing water. To me the mountains suggest permanence of wisdom, and the water suggests flexibility of spirit.

photo of Crawfish Springs - Chickamauga, GA

This is a digital photo taken at Crawfish Springs in Chickamauga, GA.

It's a lovely, quaint little town in NW Georgia, filled with restaurants, little shops and friendly people - and Fred.

This scene is absolutely an artist's gold mine for capturing images for paintings. The movement of the water folds the shadows. Sunlight illuminates the entire area, enriching colors and deepening shadows. Perspective lengthens the view. There is so much to see here !

The photo is high resolution. I invite you to click on the image, enlarging your view, and enjoy all the beauty.

Cave Maiden

This is a cropped version of a photo taken by my daughter, Ann, while visiting Petit Jean Mountain in Arkansas. The cave rock formations made many designs, but this one appears to be a portrait of a girl.

This red toned canvas was intended to carry an abstract portrait. Instead it prefered to hold a river winding its way through another world - reflecting the red sky.

Frog Moon - April Full Moon

10" x 8" acrylic on stretched canvas - framed
$75 including shipping

This painting has SOLD. Thanks Rebecca !

April's full moon has lots of names, but "Frog Moon" suits it best here in North Georgia. The croakers and little peepers have been in full voice for several weeks now.

The moon and misty fog were painted using iridescent paint. When light hits the canvas at an angle, the painting has a glow. Little guys like this painting - if you look closely you can see faces peering back at you.

Foggy Morning Bridge

This little bridge was almost obscured by fog when I set up my easel. Within 30 minutes the fog was burning off, the light was changing and the mystical scene was going.
