September Full Moon on the easel

8" x 10" original on gallery wrap canvas - mixed media in progress - should be finished very soon.

In working on my series of Full Moon paintings, I've researced science and historical information. Many people refer to the full moon in October as the Harvest Moon. However, the Harvest Moon is actually the full moon nearest the September equinox which was September 23rd this year. This fact puts the September full moon, on September 26th, as the Harvest Moon.

The October full moon will be on October 26th and is referred to as the Hunter's Moon, Blood Moon or Sanguine Moon.

Grain Moon the Full Moon in August

8" x 8" x 1/2" original oil on gallery wrap stretched canvas (NO FRAME REQUIRED) - $70 including shipping -
September's full moon rose early on the 28th; the sun had hardly set so the sky was still bright. Trees have slowly begun to show premature fall coloring because of the hard drought this summer. This scene is from my imagination with a little help from observing the moonrise on Saturday the 25th. Contact me at beejw@charter.net

Thunder Moon July Full Moon

8" x 8" x 1/2" (requiring NO FRAME) original oil on gallery wrap canvas - $70 including shipping - UNAVAILABLE AT THIS TIME
July's weather has been rather strange here in North Georgia. Thunderstorms almost every evening have given the sky a purple cast both at sunset and sunrise. This painting is completely imagined. I don't know whether the small forms in the distance are trees or a town. You can decide.

Flower Moon is the second full moon in May

4" x 4" x 1/2" acrylic on gallery wrap canvas
This little 'sketch' is an idea for a larger painting - sometime.

There are two full moons (sometimes known as a blue moon) in May this year. Flower Moon is another name for a May full moon.

These acrylics are more watercolor transparent than my regular acrylics. At first I wasn't happy with the coverage, but the more I looked, the more dreamlike the scene appears. And it's a warmup for a larger work, so I think it'll be ok.

Planting Moon is the First May Full Moon - SOLD

8" x 8" x 1/2" original oil on stretched gallery wrap canvas - $70 including shipping - SOLD -
This year there will be two full moons in May. Planting Moon is one of the names and seems to fit this early moon. Because of a hard frost in mid-April, some crops which were planted early didn't make it through, and must be planted again.

Frog Moon - April Full Moon

10" x 8" acrylic on stretched canvas - framed
$75 including shipping

This painting has SOLD. Thanks Rebecca !

April's full moon has lots of names, but "Frog Moon" suits it best here in North Georgia. The croakers and little peepers have been in full voice for several weeks now.

The moon and misty fog were painted using iridescent paint. When light hits the canvas at an angle, the painting has a glow. Little guys like this painting - if you look closely you can see faces peering back at you.

Windy Moon Eclipse - March

8" x 8" x 1/2" acrylic on gallery wrap canvas
$60

March 3rd gave the world a breathtaking view - a total lunar eclipse. "Windy Moon" is but one of the names given the March full moon.

The paint was still wet when this photo was taken. I must apologize for the effect this gave in the lower right of the painting. Be assured that it is now dry.

Snow Moon

6" x 6" x 1/2" acrylic on stretched canvas
$40 - sorry, no longer available

The full moon in February is also called Bony Moon, Hunger Moon, and Opening Buds Moon. The simple name Snow Moon speaks of quiet stillness awaiting a hint of maybe an early Spring.

This was inspired by a photo taken by my daughter, Ann. Thanks :o)

full moons

I've just come across a list of full moon dates for 2007.

It's fascinating that the January full moon came on the 3rd - the same day I posted my painting "Standing Alone in Dark's Light". Coincidence ??

Just a bit of information - the January full moon is called Old Moon, Wolf Moon, Cold Moon, and Moon after Yule.
